Yoga Philosophy and Meditation
Yoga is the practice of awareness. Like a two-headed arrow, one end points to the outer world, which we approach through sensory and mental awareness. The other end points inwards, awareness drawn from thought to intention to the sense of vibration known as Consciousness. Meditation is a practice that works with the nature of the mind. It can help you understand your own thinking and learn how to refocus on the stillness within. If you’d like to know more, take a look at Articles.
The quieter you become, the more you can hear. — Ram Dass
Everything in your life that you know, you know through your own awareness. Every person, every fact, every thought, every fantasy, every fear, event, outside object, is always registered in your awareness. You cannot know anything outside of your awareness. Thus, there is no universe outside of your own awareness. — The Upanishads
There is no other happiness here in this world than to be free of the thought that I am different from you. — Utpaladeva
Take time to shift your consciousness away from vexing concerns and fears, and toward inner soul peace. — Paramahansa Yogananda
Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy. — Pema Chodron
It will be very useful for you to try to be sincere with yourself. Sincerity is the key which will open the door through which you will see your separate parts, and you will see something quite new. You must go on trying to be sincere. Each day you put on a mask, and you must take it off little by little. — Gurdjieff
The essence of spirituality is to understand life properly, to find the truth and the untruth about who we are. True spirituality is possible only when you let go of everything. — Nisargadatta Maharaj
You have to go through the darkness to truly know the light. This may sound like a cliché, but it’s true nonetheless. Often the greatest doubts occur just before a breakthrough. — Lama Surya Das
The more you increase your love, the less you worry. This love and devotion are greater than any other sadhana [spiritual practice]. Love and devotion are not different; they are one and the same. It is only through love that you meditate and become absorbed in meditation; then your inner love opens up. It is only through love that you open yourself to another person. Love is the origin of this world. The universe was not created through anger or through other desires. This whole universe was created through love. — Baba Muktananda
Yoga aims at union of the individual with the universal. Find out what is immediate, intimate, instead of trying to find out the distant and unknown. Find out, Who am I? The pure I is the reality, the absolute-existence-consciousness-bliss. — Ramana Maharshi.
Science not only is compatible with spirituality, it is spirituality. — Carl Sagan
For the mind is turbulent, strong and obstinate, and to subdue it is as difficult as to control the wind.
— Bhagavad Gita
Yoga is awareness, transformation of the human consciousness into divine Consciousness.
— Jaideva Singh
